Ibanez built the EHB1005MSBKF as part of the EHB Workshop Series, a headless multi-scale bass line positioned around active preamp flexibility paired with passive pickup options. The EHB1005MS sat as a five-string entry in that series, finished in Black Flat.
The bass carried an American Basswood body with a five-piece Roasted Maple and Walnut neck reinforced with graphite rods. The fretboard was Roasted Birdseye Maple with abalone off-set dot inlays, carrying 24 medium Stainless Steel frets across a fanned scale — 889mm on the low B side, 838mm on the high G side. Nut width measured 45mm, widening to 74mm at the 24th fret; neck thickness ran 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth, with a 500mm radius. The MR5HS bridge provided 18mm string spacing. Pickups were a passive Bartolini BH2 pair at neck and bridge positions, fed into a Vari-mid 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch; the treble pot doubled as a passive tone control when bypassed. Hardware throughout was finished in black. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXL170-5SL strings gauged .045/.065/.080/.100/.130, tuned B–E–A–D–G.
Owners requiring setup work, fret maintenance, or nut adjustment on this fanned-fret instrument should consult a qualified luthier familiar with multi-scale bass geometry, as the angled frets and dual-scale length affect both intonation procedure and string-break angles at the bridge.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
