Washburn built the WCG55CE as part of its Comfort Series, positioning it as a grand auditorium cutaway acoustic-electric. The cutaway body configuration and onboard electronics placed it toward the performance-oriented end of the Comfort Series line.
The top, back, and sides were constructed from koa, braced internally with quarter-sawn scalloped Sitka spruce bracing. The neck was satin mahogany, fitted with a two-way truss rod, and carried a rosewood fretboard at a 25.5-inch scale with 21 frets. The nut was a GraphTech NuBone unit measuring 43mm in width. A custom wood inlay rosette finished the top. Hardware included a mahogany and bound rosewood bridge and Grover Exclusive 18:1 tuners in black. Electronics were handled by a Fishman Presys+ preamp system with integrated tuner. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario EXP-16 light phosphor bronze strings.
