Washburn produced the C5 as part of its Classical Series acoustic guitar line, positioning it as a nylon-string instrument built to classical guitar conventions. The C5 carried a spruce top paired with catalpa back and sides, finished with a mosaic rosette and quarter-sawn scalloped Sitka spruce bracing beneath the soundboard.
The mahogany neck runs to a rosewood fretboard with 19 frets and a 52mm nut width — the wider nut profile standard to classical instruments, accommodating fingerstyle technique. The nut itself is GraphTech NuBone. Scale length is 25.5 inches. The bridge is rosewood, and the tuning machines are classical-style chrome units with pearloid buttons. D'Addario EJ46 Pro-Arté Hard Tension strings were fitted as standard. No electronics or preamp system was fitted to this model.
