Washburn built the C5-WSH-A-U as part of its Classical Series, positioning it as a nylon-string acoustic intended to serve both dedicated classical and flamenco players as well as those newer to fingerstyle playing. It sat within Washburn's entry-to-mid-level classical offering, carrying the hallmarks of the traditional classical format: full string spacing at the nut and nylon strings in place of steel.
The body uses a spruce top with catalpa back and sides, braced with quarter-sawn Sitka spruce. The neck is mahogany, topped with an engineered wood fretboard running to 19 frets. The nut is a Graphtech Nubone unit measuring 52mm wide, and the scale length is 650mm — the full standard classical length. A mosaic rosette ornaments the soundhole. The guitar ships strung with D'Addario EJ46 ProArte Hard Tension strings. Hardware is finished in gold, with classical-style tuners and an alternative-material bridge. The body is presented in a gloss natural finish.
