Washburn positioned the C40 within its Classical Series as a nylon-string acoustic built to classical guitar convention. The instrument carried a traditional classical format with a 52mm nut width and 25.5" scale length, reflecting standard classical playing geometry.
The top was Spruce, braced with Quarter Sawn Scalloped Sitka Spruce bracing. Back and sides were Mahogany, as was the neck. The Rosewood fretboard was joined by a Rosewood bridge, and the headstock carried Classical Chrome tuners. The nut was a Graphtech Nubone unit. Finishing details included a Mosaic rosette. The C40 was strung from the factory with D'Addario EJ46 ProArte Hard Tension strings. No onboard electronics were fitted.
