Ibanez built the UEWT5 as part of its EW ukulele series, positioning it as a cutaway tenor instrument with an open pore natural finish across the entire body, neck, and headstock. The EW body shape with its cutaway design gave players access to the upper fret range that a standard tenor body would restrict.
Construction centred on a sapele top, back, and sides, paired with an okoume neck. The purpleheart fretboard and bridge provided contrast against the natural sapele, with maple dot inlays marking positions across 19 frets. An abalone rosette dressed the soundhole. Fan bracing supported the sapele top internally. Chrome open-gear tuners handled tuning stability, and the instrument shipped strung with Ibanez/Aquila NYLBLACK ukulele strings over a compensated saddle. The 432 mm scale and 37 mm nut width define the playing geometry, with neck thickness measuring 18 mm at the first fret and 19 mm at the seventh, and a 400 mm radius fretboard. String spacing at the saddle is 15 mm.
