Ibanez built the UEW12E as an electro-acoustic concert-style ukulele within its UEW series, positioning it as an amplification-ready instrument for players who required stage or recording capability alongside a traditional ukulele format. The body follows a cutaway EW concert profile, allowing upper-fret access across the instrument's 19-fret Purpleheart fretboard.
The top, back, and sides are constructed from flamed maple throughout, finished in an open-pore treatment on all wood surfaces including the neck back. The okoume neck meets the fretboard at a flat radius, with a nut width of 35mm and a 382mm scale length. Maple dot inlays mark the fretboard positions, and a maple rosette surrounds the soundhole, with black body binding completing the visual trim. Grover chrome open-gear tuners with black knobs handle intonation duties. The bridge and saddle are Purpleheart, the saddle being compensated. String spacing at the bridge is 13mm, and the instrument ships strung with Ibanez/Aquila NYLBLACK ukulele strings. Electronics consist of an Ibanez undersaddle pickup routed to an AEQ2U preamp with an onboard tuner; the signal exits via a 1/4-inch endpin jack, and the system is powered by two CR2032 coin lithium batteries.
Owners requiring setup adjustments, saddle work, or pickup servicing should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with small-body acoustic-electric instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
