Ibanez produced the UEWT14E as an electro-acoustic tenor ukulele within its acoustic ukulele line, built around the EW cutaway body style and voiced for players who required both acoustic projection and amplified output. The cutaway configuration gave access to the upper reaches of the 19-fret Purpleheart fretboard without sacrificing body resonance.
The body was constructed with an Ovangkol top, back, and sides finished in an open-pore treatment on all surfaces, paired with an Okoume neck. Fan bracing supported the top internally. Fretboard and bridge were both Purpleheart, with maple dot inlays and a maple soundhole rosette providing the decorative detail against ivory body binding. Grover chrome open-gear tuners with black knobs handled tuning. The nut width measured 37mm, scale length 432mm, and string spacing at the saddle 15mm. Electronics consisted of an Ibanez undersaddle pickup feeding an AEQ2U preamp with onboard tuner, outputting via a 1/4" endpin jack; power was supplied by two CR2032 coin lithium batteries. Strings were fitted as Ibanez/Aquila NYLBLACK ukulele strings from the factory.
