Ibanez built the JSA20VB as part of the JSA Signature Series, a line developed around Joe Satriani's requirements for an acoustic instrument. It occupied the upper tier of the signature acoustic range, distinguished by its all-solid tonewoods and integrated Fishman electronics package tailored specifically to the artist.
The top was solid Engelmann Spruce, paired with solid Pau Ferro back and sides. The neck, designated the JSA profile, was constructed from Nyatoh and carried an Ebony fretboard and Ebony bridge, both fitted with abalone dot inlays and an abalone soundhole rosette respectively. Nut and saddle were Graph Tech TUSQ, with the saddle compensated for intonation. Tuning was handled by Grover chrome die-cast machines with half-moon knobs. The electronics consisted of a Fishman Acoustic Matrix pickup feeding a Fishman Aura Pro preamp, the latter equipped with an onboard tuner and a Joe Satriani original preset sound, with output via a 1/4-inch endpin jack. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP16 strings (.012–.053) and used Ibanez Advantage bridge pins. The fretboard radius measured 305mm, the scale 651mm, and the nut width 43mm across 20 frets.
Owners sourcing replacement parts — including TUSQ nut and saddle blanks, Grover half-moon tuner buttons, or Fishman Aura Pro components — should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician for fitting and setup guidance.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
