Ibanez produced the IUKS5 as a soprano-body acoustic ukulele finished in Natural, positioning it as an entry-level to mid-range instrument within their ukulele line. The soprano body represents the traditional ukulele format, and the 350mm scale and 17-fret Purpleheart fretboard define the instrument's playing range.
Ibanez built the IUKS5 with a Sapele top, back, and sides, paired with an Okoume neck. The Purpleheart fretboard is matched by a Purpleheart bridge. Ivory body binding edges the body, and all surfaces — top, back, sides, and neck — carry a satin finish. Chrome open-gear tuners handle intonation duties, and the instrument ships strung with black nylon strings at a 13mm string spacing. The nut measures 35mm wide, and the neck profile dimensions are 17.6mm at the first fret and 20.6mm at the seventh fret. The fretboard radius is flat. Body dimensions are recorded as 9 1/4" in length and 6 2/3" in width, with a maximum depth of 2 1/3".
Owners requiring setup adjustments, nut or saddle work, or sourcing of replacement Purpleheart bridge components or open-gear soprano tuners should consult a qualified luthier or guitar technician familiar with ukulele construction.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
