Ibanez built the AEWC400TKS as part of its AEW Series, positioning it as an acoustic-electric with a purpose-designed comfort body profile. The AEWC body shape distinguished the line from conventional dreadnought or auditorium formats, and the Transparent Black Sunburst High Gloss finish was applied over a Flamed Maple top, back, and sides.
The neck is Ibanez's AEWC Asymmetric comfort profile in Nyatoh, joined to a Walnut fretboard with off-set white dot inlays across 20 frets. The nut measures 43mm wide, with a 634mm scale length and a fretboard radius of 400mmR. Neck thickness is 20mm at the first fret and 21mm at the seventh. Body depth runs to a maximum of 4 inches, and the lower bout measures 15 inches wide. The Walnut AEWC original top-loading bridge is fitted with a plastic saddle, and the nut is also plastic. Chrome die-cast tuners with black knobs handle tuning. Electronics consist of a Fishman Sonicore pickup feeding an Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp with an onboard tuner; output options include both a balanced XLR and a standard 1/4-inch jack. The guitar left the factory strung with Ibanez IACS6C strings gauged .012/.016/.024/.032/.042/.053 at 11mm string spacing, tuned to standard E.
