Washburn built the M1SDLTR-A-U as part of its Americana Series, positioning it as an A-style mandolin with an oval sound hole. Washburn has been producing mandolins since the late 1800s, and this instrument sat within a line intended to serve players across bluegrass, Celtic, and rock contexts.
The top is a solid carved European Spruce, braced with quarter-sawn Sitka Spruce, and paired with maple back and sides. The maple neck carries a 1-1/8" ABS nut, a 13-3/4" scale length, and 20 frets with dot inlays. An ABS rosette surrounds the oval sound hole. Hardware throughout is gold, including gold diecast tuners with pearloid buttons. The bridge is described as alternative-style. Strings fitted from the factory were D'Addario J73 light gauge mandolin strings. The instrument was finished in a gloss transparent red.
