Washburn positioned the M1SDLB-A-U within its Americana Series as an A-style mandolin built around a solid carved European spruce top with maple back and sides, finished in gloss black. Washburn had been building mandolins since the late 1800s, and the Americana Series carried that lineage into an instrument aimed at players across bluegrass, Celtic, and rock contexts. The oval soundhole is a defining feature of the A-style format.
The top bracing uses quarter-sawn Sitka spruce. The maple neck carries an engineered wood fretboard with dot inlays across 20 frets, and an ABS nut at 1-1/4" width over a 13-3/4" scale. Gold diecast tuners with pearloid buttons handle tuning, while an alternative-style bridge sits beneath the strings — D'Addario J73 light gauge mandolin strings as fitted. The rosette and nut are both ABS, and all hardware is gold.
