Hagstrom positioned the Ultra Max within its single-cutaway line as a close relative of the Ultra Swede, distinguished by a slightly larger mahogany body carrying a thick custom carved flame maple top. The neck joint is a mortise and tenon set neck construction, with the mahogany neck running a 25.50" scale length.
The neck carries an UltraSlim "D" profile with an H-Expander™ truss rod, a Resinator™ fingerboard radiused at 15", pearloid block inlays, and 22 medium jumbo frets. The GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut measures 43 mm wide. Two Custom 60 AlNiCo-5 humbuckers with brushed aluminum covers feed a 3-way toggle switch; the single tone control incorporates a push-pull coil split. Hardware includes a Long Travel Tune-O-Matic bridge and Hagstrom Sustain Block tailpiece, with Hagstrom Design 15:1 tuning keys. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario 10-46s. Body binding is white perloid. The finish on this example is Milky Mandarin Satin.
Owners seeking setup assistance, fret work, or compatible replacement hardware — including parts sized for the Long Travel Tune-O-Matic or the 43 mm nut — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
