Dunlop produced the EP101-U Echoplex PreAmp as a dedicated pedal recreation of the preamp stage found in the Maestro EP-3 Echoplex tape echo unit. The pedal was positioned as a utility device for players seeking to replicate the buffering and gain character that the EP-3's preamp section contributed to a signal chain, independent of any delay or echo effect.
The circuit follows the EP-3's signal path using FET circuitry and includes a Gain control capable of up to +11 dB of boost. Measured performance figures are: input impedance 730 kΩ, output impedance 55 kΩ, maximum input level −5 dBV, maximum output level +5.5 dBV, noise floor −95 dBV, and maximum gain +11 dBV. Switching is true hardwire bypass. The unit draws 12 mA and operates on a 9-volt DC supply.
Owners requiring maintenance, calibration, or power-supply troubleshooting on this unit should consult a qualified electronics technician familiar with effects pedal circuitry.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
