Tremolo springs sit in the cavity behind the bridge and pull the sustain block back against string tension. When they lose tension — or lose it at different rates — the bridge stops returning to the same point after a dive or pull-up. These are Floyd Rose's noiseless variant: a polymer coating on the brass wire damps the sympathetic vibration that stock springs can feed back through the pickups as an audible hum, reverb tail, or low-level wash. Springs are not a universal fit. Tension has to balance the pull of your strings, and that balance shifts with string gauge and tuning. Heavier strings or a lower tuning require more spring tension — either more springs in the claw or stiffer ones. Too little tension and the bridge tilts forward; too much and the plate gets pulled flat against the body. Replace the full set at once. Springs lose tension unevenly with age, and a mixed set of old and new will fight the same balance problem you are trying to fix.

The wire is brass with a black finish. The polymer layer that gives these their noiseless designation is on the wire itself, not a surface coat applied after winding.
