Ibanez built the RG1121PBCKB as part of the RG Premium Series, positioning it above the standard RG line with upgraded tonewoods, hardware and pickup specification. The model carried a Charcoal Black Burst finish over a Poplar Burl top.
The guitar was constructed with an American Basswood body beneath the Poplar Burl top, and featured an 11-piece Wizard neck laminated from Maple, Walnut and Purpleheart — a multi-laminate configuration associated with the Premium tier. The Ebony fretboard ran 24 frets with Mother of Pearl dot inlays, a 400mm radius, and received Ibanez's Premium fret edge treatment alongside Jescar EVO Gold fret wire. The nut measured 43mm wide, widening to 58mm at the 24th fret, with a neck thickness of 18mm at the first fret and 20mm at the twelfth. Scale length was 648mm (25.5 inches). Hardware throughout was finished in Cosmo black, including the Mono-rail bridge with 10.8mm string spacing. Electronics comprised a pair of DiMarzio Fusion Edge humbuckers — passive, ceramic-magnet units — at both neck and bridge positions. The guitar left the factory strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
