Ibanez positioned the GRG121DXMGS within the RG Gio series — the entry-level tier of the long-running RG line — as a full-featured, double-humbucker solid-body electric built around the RG platform's characteristic 25.5-inch scale and fast neck profile. The Metallic Gray Sunburst finish was assigned the standard poplar body construction.
The neck is a GRG-profile maple piece joined to a bound Purpleheart fretboard carrying 24 jumbo frets and white Sharktooth inlays. The nut width measures 43mm, widening to 58mm at the 24th fret; neck thickness runs 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. The fretboard radius is 400mmR. String spacing at the F106 bridge is 10.5mm. Both pickup positions are loaded with IBZ-6 passive ceramic humbuckers. All hardware is finished in black. The guitar leaves the factory strung with a .010–.046 set in standard E tuning across all six strings.
Owners requiring setup work, fret maintenance, or assistance sourcing compatible replacement parts — including standard-spacing tune-o-matic-style bridge saddles, 43mm nut blanks, or six-screw tremolo components compatible with the F106 — should consult a qualified guitar technician or luthier.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
