Ibanez built the AZ224BCGDET as part of the AZ Premium Series, positioning it as a specification-forward instrument within the Premium tier of the AZ line. It carried a Bocote top over an American Basswood body, finished in Deep Espresso Burst, with a roasted maple neck in the AZ Oval C profile and a matching roasted maple fretboard with black dot inlays.
The guitar was fitted with 22 jumbo stainless steel frets on a 305mm radius board, with a 648mm (25.5") scale length and a 42mm nut width courtesy of a Graph Tech nut. Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups occupy all three positions — passive Alnico single-coils at the neck and middle, and a passive Alnico humbucker at the bridge — and the pickup selector routes through gold hardware throughout. The Gotoh T1502 tremolo bridge, with 10.5mm string spacing, handled vibrato duties. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard tuning.
