Ibanez built the SR405EQMDEB as a five-string entry in the SR (Soundgear) Series, a line the company positioned around slim, fast-playing basses aimed at players who prioritised neck feel and low weight over traditional bass bulk. The quilted maple top over a nyatoh body gave the model its Dragon Eye Burst finish designation, placing it among the visually differentiated variants within the SR405EQM production run.
The bass featured a five-piece maple and walnut SR5 neck, a construction method Ibanez used across the SR line to add stiffness and stability. The jatoba fretboard carried white dot inlays and medium frets, with a 305mm radius and a 34-inch (864mm) scale. Nut width measured 45mm, widening to 68mm at the 24th fret; neck thickness ran 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. The Accu-cast B305 bridge was spaced at 16.5mm between strings. Passive PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups sat at both neck and bridge positions, feeding an Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ equipped with a 3-way Power Tap switch — a switching arrangement that allowed tonal shaping beyond a conventional passive/active toggle. All hardware was finished in cosmo black.
