The guitar's top is solid Sitka spruce, paired with figured ash back and sides — a combination that distinguished this model from more common mahogany or rosewood-backed instruments in the dreadnought category. The fingerboard is rosewood. The cutaway body style provides upper-fret access not typically found on standard dreadnought configurations, and the onboard electronics system — denoted by the "E" suffix — allowed amplified use.
