Washburn built the EA12B-A-U as part of its Festival Series, a line the company positioned toward performing musicians and one that sustained production for over 25 years. The Festival Series gained wide visibility as the acoustic-electric guitar regularly seen on MTV's Unplugged series, and it became a reference point in the cutaway acoustic-electric category. The EA12B-A-U is a mini jumbo, single-cutaway, six-string acoustic-electric finished in gloss black.
The body is constructed entirely of basswood — top, back, and sides — braced with quarter-sawn scalloped Sitka spruce. The mahogany neck, fitted with a two-way truss rod, carries a 25½" scale and meets a 20-fret engineered wood fretboard with dot inlays. The nut is Graphtech Nubone at 1-11/16" width. Electronics are handled by a Barcus-Berry EQ4T preamp system with volume, bass, mid, treble, notch, and presence controls, plus a built-in tuner. Hardware throughout is chrome, including diecast tuners, and the rosette is faux-abalone. The guitar shipped strung with a D'Addario EXP-16 light phosphor bronze set.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the Graphtech Nubone nut is a standard catalogue item from Graphtech, and the Barcus-Berry EQ4T preamp module is a discrete unit; a qualified guitar technician can advise on sourcing compatible replacements for either component.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
