Washburn positioned the AGM5K-A-U within its Apprentice Series as the entry point into the G-Mini body style — a 7/8-scale grand auditorium instrument aimed at beginners and players seeking a compact, travel-friendly acoustic-electric. It sat at the most affordable tier of the G-Mini range.
The body used a select spruce top over mahogany back and sides, braced with quarter-sawn scalloped bracing and decorated with a Washburn Heritage rosette. The satin finish kept the aesthetic understated. A mahogany neck with an engineered wood fretboard carried 20 frets over a 23-1/4" scale, with a 1-11/16" plastic nut and dot inlays. Hardware ran to chrome diecast tuners with black buttons and an alternative-style bridge, all in chrome. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP-16 light phosphor bronze strings and included a gig bag.
