Washburn positioned the AG70CEK-A-U within its Apprentice Series as an entry point for the committed beginner — a Grand Auditorium body acoustic-electric with a cutaway, built to carry a player through early development without requiring an early upgrade. The series sat at the accessible end of Washburn's acoustic line while retaining features associated with higher tiers, including a Barcus-Berry electronics system and quarter-sawn scalloped bracing.
The body was constructed with a select spruce top and Ovangkol back and sides, with quarter-sawn scalloped bracing supporting tonal projection. The mahogany neck carried an engineered wood fretboard with 20 frets, dot inlays, and a 1-11/16" ABS nut at a 25-1/2" scale. A flame maple-capped headstock held chrome diecast tuners with black buttons. The onboard Barcus-Berry LX4 preamp system provided Volume, Bass, Mid, and Treble controls alongside a Notch/Presence control and a built-in chromatic tuner. All hardware was finished in chrome. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXP-16 light phosphor bronze strings.
