Washburn built the AGM5BMK-A-U as part of the Apprentice Series, positioning it as a travel and mini-format acoustic-electric guitar finished in black matte. It shares the scaled-down proportions of the AGM5K G-Mini platform, with the matte black colorway distinguishing it from its sister instrument.
The top is select spruce with a Washburn Heritage rosette, backed and sided with select mahogany — a pairing the original copy described as producing a mellow, well-defined tone with note clarity notable for an instrument of smaller dimensions. Quarter-sawn scalloped bracing supports the top. The mahogany neck carries a natural matte finish and a 20-fret engineered wood fretboard with dot inlays, a plastic nut, and a 23-1/4" scale length. The engineered wood bridge and chrome hardware with black-button tuners complete the build. D'Addario strings were fitted as standard.
