Description

Randall built the NBKING100-U as a signature tube amplifier head developed in collaboration with guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and Peter King. The amp was positioned as a high-performance, two-channel head aimed at players seeking Bettencourt's characteristic percussive tone, with the design described as combining classic aesthetics with modern circuitry.

The NBKING100-U operated across three selectable modes: a Clean channel, an Overdrive channel, and a Solo mode for sustained harmonic output. The preamp section comprised three channels corresponding to these modes. The output stage was driven by four E34L power tubes, and a VU output meter was fitted to the front panel. A power tube bias section was included. The rear panel carried a series effects loop and MIDI in/thru connectivity. Spring reverb was provided onboard. Control was handled via the included RF2KH three-button footswitch, covering Clean/Overdrive selection, Gain 1/Gain 2, and Reverb. A master volume control was fitted. The head cabinet measured 24.57 × 9.49 × 11.10 inches and weighed 106.92 lbs.

Owners requiring assistance with biasing the E34L output tubes, setting up the effects loop, or troubleshooting the MIDI switching should consult a qualified amplifier technician.

From the people who own them

Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.

Put yours on the record.

The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.

What do you know about this one?

Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
