Dunlop positioned the MXR M89-U Bass Overdrive as a dedicated bass effects pedal designed to deliver overdriven tones while preserving low-end integrity. It sat within the MXR effects line as a bass-specific drive unit.
The M89-U operated on a 9-volt DC power supply, drawing 19 mA of current. It offered an input impedance of 1 MΩ and an output impedance of under 10 kΩ, with a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 95 dB. A Clean control allowed the player to blend in a pre-set EQ clean signal alongside the overdriven signal, giving direct control over the balance between clean and driven content.
Owners sourcing a replacement power supply should confirm 9-volt DC centre-negative compatibility before substituting. For any internal servicing or component-level work, a qualified guitar technician or electronics repair professional is the appropriate resource.

What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
