Dunlop positioned the MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe (M84-U) as a dedicated bass fuzz pedal designed to preserve low-end punch and clarity alongside its fuzz signal. It sat in the MXR effects line as a solution to a common problem with fuzz on bass: the loss of the instrument's original dry signal character.
The pedal offered separate Dry and Wet level controls, allowing the owner to blend the unprocessed bass signal with the fuzz output independently. The fuzz circuit provided up to 40 dB of gain, while the dry path offered up to +6 dB of gain on the clean signal. The M84-U operated on 9 volts DC, drew 11 mA of current, and featured true hardwire bypass. Input impedance was rated at 1 MΩ, output impedance at 100 Ω, and signal-to-noise ratio at 90 dBV.
