Description

Dunlop produced the M173-U MXR Classic 108 Fuzz as a compact effects pedal positioned within the MXR line. It was built around the same BC-108 transistor circuit found in the Fuzz Face® Distortion, and carried MXR's modern engineering additions alongside that core topology.

The principal practical addition over a standard Fuzz Face® circuit was a Buffer switch, which was included specifically to improve compatibility with wah pedals — a known interaction problem with high-impedance fuzz designs. The pedal runs on 9 volts DC at a current draw of 2.2 mA, uses true hardwire bypass, and delivers a maximum output level of -4 dBV with a maximum gain of 55 dB at 1 kHz. With the buffer engaged, input impedance measures 800 kΩ; with it disengaged, the circuit presents 10 kΩ. Output impedance at 1 kHz ranges from 16 kΩ at maximum volume to 160 kΩ at -6 dB.
