Dunlop produced the MXR Distortion+ (M104-U) as a compact hardwire-bypass distortion pedal within the MXR effects line. It occupied the foundational end of the distortion category, designed to cover a range from mild overdrive character through to higher-gain distortion textures.
The M104-U operates on a 9-volt DC supply, drawing 2.5 mA — a modest current requirement compatible with standard pedal power arrangements. Input impedance is rated at 1 MΩ and output impedance at 25 kΩ. The circuit delivers a distortion gain range of 10 dB to 45 dB at 1 kHz, with a nominal input level of -22 dBV, a maximum output level of -14 dBV, and a noise floor of -74 dBV. Signal routing uses hardwire bypass.
Owners sourcing replacement hardware or investigating signal chain compatibility should consult a qualified guitar technician or electronics repair specialist, particularly when addressing power supply configurations or bypass switching components.

What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
