Cort built the NDX-BARITONE-NS as part of the NDX Series to serve guitarists requiring lower-than-standard tuning without the intonation compromises and string-tension difficulties associated with converting a standard acoustic to that purpose. It sat within the NDX line as a dedicated baritone platform, fitted with a Florentine cutaway and a dovetail neck joint joining a solid Sitka spruce top to solid African Mahogany (Okoume) back and sides. Electronics were handled by a Fishman® Sonicore pickup paired with a Fishman® Presys Blend preamp system, making the instrument equally suited to amplified use.
The neck, made from Mahogany (Palaquium), carries an Ovangkol fretboard with 20 frets, abalone circle inlays, and a 45mm (1¾") nut width across a 685mm (27") baritone scale. The bridge is also Ovangkol. Internal structure relies on Advanced Scalloped X-Bracing. The rosette and binding are abalone and ivory respectively. Cort shipped the instrument strung with D'Addario® EXP23 strings in baritone tuning (B E A D F# B), reflecting its intended use directly out of the case. The finish is natural satin, as indicated by the NS suffix.
