Ibanez positioned the RGR5221TFR within the RG Prestige Series, placing it at the upper tier of their RG line where domestic Japanese-quality construction standards applied. The model carried a Transparent Fluorescent Orange finish over an ash top and African Mahogany body, paired with a five-piece Maple/Wenge Super Wizard HP neck — a profile associated with Ibanez's high-speed, low-mass construction philosophy.
The bound Macassar Ebony fretboard ran 24 jumbo stainless steel frets with Prestige fret edge treatment and off-set Mother of Pearl dot inlays, at a 430mm radius. Nut width measured 43mm, widening to 58mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness of 17mm at the first fret and 19mm at the 12th. The 648mm (25.5") scale fed into a Gibraltar Standard II bridge strung at 10.8mm spacing. Electronics consisted of a pair of passive ceramic Bare Knuckle Brute Force humbuckers at neck and bridge positions. The Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL nut and Cosmo black hardware completed the assembly. The instrument shipped factory-strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the Gibraltar Standard II bridge accepts components sized to its 10.8mm string spacing, and the Graph Tech BLACK TUSQ XL nut is a catalogue item available through Graph Tech's replacement range. A qualified luthier or guitar technician can advise on fret replacement compatibility given the stainless steel jumbo specification and Prestige edge treatment.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
