Ibanez built the RG421HPFMBRG as part of the long-running RG Series, positioning it as a fixed-bridge, high-output instrument with an eye toward figured top aesthetics. It carried a Flamed Maple top over a Nyatoh body, paired with a Wizard III profile neck in Roasted Maple — a neck construction Ibanez developed to improve stability and reduce moisture sensitivity relative to unroasted maple.
The fretboard is Jatoba with white dot inlays and 24 jumbo frets across a 400mmR radius, suited to both rhythm work and lead runs at the upper register. Scale length runs 648mm (25.5"), and the nut measures 43mm wide, tapering from 19mm thickness at the first fret to 21mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the F106 fixed bridge is 10.5mm. Pickups are a DiMarzio Air Norton (humbucker, passive Alnico) at the neck and a DiMarzio Tone Zone (humbucker, passive Alnico) at the bridge — a pairing associated with a warm neck voice balanced against a higher-output bridge. Hardware throughout is finished in gold. The guitar shipped strung with D'Addario EXL110s (.010–.046) in standard E tuning.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the F106 bridge accepts strings at 10.5mm spacing, and the 43mm nut width governs replacement nut compatibility. For setup adjustments, intonation work, or part sourcing, consult a qualified guitar technician familiar with fixed-bridge RG-style instruments.
STRAIGHT TALK
What Stands Out
Keep In Mind
From the people who own them
Nothing in The Vault is for sale. These records exist so the instruments stay documented after the manufacturer moves on — and the most useful part of that record is what owners add to it.
Owner photos
Put yours on the record.
The catalog shot showed one finish, under one light, a long time ago. Yours has been played. Photos from owners are what the next person finds when they are trying to identify a part, match a finish, or work out whether the one they just bought is really what the seller said it was.
What do you know about this one?
Specs only go so far. What actually fits, what breaks first, what the factory got right and what everyone ends up changing — that lives with the people who own them, not in a datasheet. Post what you know and it stays on this page for whoever comes looking next.
