Ibanez built the GRGM21MWNS as part of the miKro Series, a line designed around a reduced-scale format. The model sat at the entry level of the GRG family, offering a compact instrument on a 22.2-inch scale with a full 24-fret maple fretboard.
The guitar was constructed with a basswood body and a maple neck, with black dot inlays marking the fretboard positions. Hardware ran to chrome throughout, including the Ibanez F106 bridge set at 10.5mm string spacing. Passive ceramic Infinity R humbuckers occupied both the neck and bridge positions. The nut measured 41mm wide in plastic, the neck profile measured 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth, and the fretboard carried a 400mm radius. The instrument left the factory strung to standard E-to-E tuning with a .010–.046 gauge set.
