Washburn built the B9-WSH-A-U as part of its Americana Series, positioning it as a 5-string resonator banjo within a line that drew on the company's long history of banjo manufacture. The B9 sat in the Americana range as an entry into traditional banjo construction aimed at players seeking heritage-informed design.
The instrument was built around a mahogany resonator and aluminum rim, paired with an 11-inch grooved tension hoop and a chrome armrest. The neck is mahogany, capped with an engineered wood fretboard carrying dot inlays across 22 frets. The ABS nut measures 1-3/16" in width, and the scale runs 27-1/2". A maple bridge with ebony tip transfers string energy to the head, which is a Remo unit. The traditional tailpiece and geared 5th-string planetary tuner handle the banjo-specific stringing arrangement, while the remaining four strings are served by diecast tuners with pearloid buttons. All hardware is chrome. The instrument shipped strung with D'Addario J60+ light gauge nickel strings and was finished in sunburst gloss.
