Ibanez built the RG7421PBSBF as part of the RG Series, positioning it as a seven-string instrument with a visually distinctive Poplar Burl top over a Meranti body. The Sapphire Blue Flat finish was the defining cosmetic feature of this variant within the line.
The guitar was constructed around a three-piece Maple Wizard II-7 neck — a profile associated with Ibanez's emphasis on speed and low action — joined to a Jatoba fretboard carrying white dot inlays across 24 jumbo frets.
