Ibanez built the GRG131DXBKF as part of the GRG sub-line within the broader RG Gio Series, positioning it as an entry-level RG-format electric guitar. The Gio Series served as Ibanez's accessible tier of the RG platform, carrying over the core construction and hardware language of the main RG line in a more attainable package.
The guitar is built on a Poplar body paired with a Maple neck and a bound Purpleheart fretboard bearing Red Sharktooth inlays. The fretboard runs to 24 Jumbo frets at a 648mm (25.5") scale length and a 400mm radius. Nut width measures 43mm, widening to 58mm at the 24th fret, with neck thickness of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. String spacing at the bridge is 10.5mm. Hardware throughout is finished in Black, including the F106 bridge. Pickups are a matched pair of passive, ceramic-magnet Infinity R humbuckers at neck and bridge positions. The guitar left the factory strung standard E-to-E with a .010–.046 set.
