Washburn built the WIS26MRK-D-U as part of its Idol Series, a line rooted in a distinctive single-cutaway body shape the company originated in 1999 as a modern interpretation of the single-cutaway form. The Idol Standard 26 drew direct inspiration from the earlier Washburn WI64, carrying forward that model's core architecture: a set-neck construction, a 24¾″ scale length, and dual USA-made Seymour Duncan humbuckers. It occupied the upper tier of the Idol Standard range, distinguished primarily by its pickup selection and wiring scheme.
The guitar was built on a mahogany body and mahogany neck, with an ebony fingerboard dressed with dot inlays and jumbo frets. The two Seymour Duncan pickups — a '59 at the neck and a Custom 5 at the bridge — were wired with Washburn's Voice Contour Control (VCC) system, a scheme that received a Guitar Player Editor's Pick award. VCC allowed continuous sweep from full humbucking tones toward near-single-coil sounds without push-pull coil-split hardware, operating through the standard control layout of two volume and two tone knobs selected via a 3-way switch. Hardware was finished in chrome throughout, with a Tune-O-Matic bridge and Grover 18:1 ratio tuning machines. The Buzz Feiten Tuning System was incorporated into the neck. Strings were factory-fitted with D'Addario XL110 (10–46). The instrument shipped with a gigbag. This example is finished in Metallic Red Copper gloss.
Owners sourcing replacement parts should note that the Tune-O-Matic bridge accepts standard metric or imperial Tune-O-Matic saddles and posts depending on specification; a qualified luthier or guitar technician can confirm the correct thread standard and advise on compatible replacements for the bridge, tuners, and electronics.
