Washburn built the R15RCE as part of its Americana Series, positioning it as a round-neck acoustic-electric resonator within a line focused on American folk-rooted styles. The model featured a single-cone, spider-bridge resonator construction and a cutaway body, paired with a mahogany top, back, and sides.
The neck was mahogany with a round profile, an engineered wood fretboard, dot inlays, and an ABS nut at 1-11/16" width. Scale length ran 24-3/4" across 20 frets. Hardware throughout was chrome, including die-cast tuners. The bridge was maple with an ebony tip. A single-coil neck pickup fed into onboard volume and tone controls, making the instrument usable direct to an amplifier or PA. Strings were D'Addario EJ42 Resophonic. The finish was gloss Tobacco Sunburst over the all-mahogany body, with quarter-sawn Sitka spruce bracing internally.
