Washburn positioned the B6-A-U within its Americana Series as an open-back, six-string banjo oriented toward guitar players seeking the tonal character of a banjo without retuning. The instrument was strung and scaled to standard guitar pitch and length, making it accessible to players already fluent on fretted instruments. Washburn noted a history of banjo production stretching back to the late 1800s as context for the Americana Series instruments.
The B6-A-U is built around a mahogany rim and mahogany neck, finished in a natural matte. The fingerboard is engineered wood with dot inlays, an ABS nut at 1-11/16" width, and a 25-1/2" scale. Fret count as stated in the sales copy differs from the existing record: the description references 22 frets while the verified spec lists 20 — owners should confirm against their physical instrument. The distressed Remo head sits within an 11" notched tension hoop secured by 24 brackets. A maple bridge with an ebony tip transfers string vibration to the head.
