Washburn built the AB5K-A-U as an amplified acoustic bass, positioned within the company's acoustic bass line as an instrument intended for performers who required amplified acoustic tone on stage or in the studio. The model carries a spruce top with mahogany back, sides, and neck, and ships strung with D'Addario EPBB170 Phosphor Bronze strings.
The AB5K-A-U is fitted with a QPH preamp system offering volume, phase, and a four-band EQ, routed through chrome diecast tuners and an alternative bridge. The engineered wood fretboard features dot inlays, an ABS nut at 1-11/16" width, and a 32" scale length. Quarter-sawn Sitka spruce bracing supports the spruce top, and the body is finished in gloss natural. The rosette and nut are ABS; all visible hardware is chrome.
